FOOD ARCADE
new generation hawker
year of completion: 2020
design intent
the intervention looks to re-imagine spatial qualities of a conventional hawker, and inject current trends to attract new faces to this aged and quiet neighbourhood. as hawker centres are a staple at chinatown, the intervention can also serve as a platform to raise awareness of preserving the hawker culture. the space will be used mainly as a incubation hawker but it will also able to transform to accomodate to different programmes as to keep up with the everchanging future.
design inspiration
perceived as dirty
no successors
heat

this initiative was highly motivated by the dying hawker culture, which is a world-renowned, unique feature of the local scene.
design concept
the idea was to create a space that could transform between a hawker and a food expo every fortnightly or when needed.
